Appalachian Education Initiative :: Art & Soul PSA featuring Don Knotts

In order to help promote the Appalachian Education Initiative's Art & Soul: West Virginians in the Arts book, BBCG contacted a few of the featured artists and asked if they'd record a Public Service Announcement based on a script we composed. Veteran comedic actor and Morgantown native Don Knotts was not only quick to reply, but also quick to deliver!

Unfortunately, Mr. Knotts passed away less than a year after recording this spot. But through the magic of television and film, not to mention this simple audio recording, his generous spirit lives on.

Center for Rural Health Development, Inc. :: Logo

The Center for Rural Health Development Inc. is a private, non-profit organization created in 1994 to provide leadership on rural health issues. The Center serves as a technical assistance and resource center to improve access to health care services in rural and under-served areas of the state.

BBCG created the Center's logo, which has held up remarkably well over time. It evokes a coming together of sorts around a common goal or initiative.

Spilman Thomas & Battle PLLC :: "Get There" Multi-Media Campaign

When long-standing BBCG client Spilman Thomas & Battle PLLC needed a campaign that punched through the clutter and functioned equally well across the firm’s Mid-Atlantic Basin footprint, the agency delivered with the compelling “Get There!” trademark series. Illustrated with vivid images and key words that best characterize – and distinguish – the firm, the campaign utilizes newspaper, periodical, web and collateral to make its point.

Click here to view numerous ads from the series as seen in magazine and newspaper. Visit Spilman's site to see how the campaign has been integrated into the firm’s web presence.

Charleston Civic Center :: Conferences & Catering Campaign

When the Charleston Civic Center requested a marketing campaign focused on its conference facilities and in-house catering services, BBCG's design team created a clean, elegant design concept and employeed magazine, direct mail/reader response cards and on-premis collateral to tout the facility’s strengths in a ‘tasteful' and ‘eventful’ fashion.

BBCG received its first Charleston Civic Center assignment in January of 1989, the very month the agency was formed. Value continues to play a key role in the longevity we enjoy with our clients.

Arnett & Foster PLLC :: "Made in West Virginia" Print Campaign

Arnett & Foster PLLC (A&F) is truly a West Virginia success story. Founded in 1950, the firm is a superb example of entrepreneurial spirit. A&F's sense of state pride is beautifully illustrated in this Fall 2009 advertisement entitled "Blueprint." The campaign served to reinforce the fact A&F is West Viginia's largest and most storied accounting firm.

BBCG has been working with A&F since 2004, and coordinates all aspects of their marketing and communications.

Charleston Area Alliance :: Comic Book Brochure

For the past year, BBCG has been working closely with the Charleston Area Alliance on an exciting project that will present the Charleston area in an innovative and engaging way. Community Music Association :: Brochure

To commemorate the Charleston Community Music Association's 75th Anniversary Performance Season, BBCG created an elegant brochure design in black and silver ink. The image of the globe references the numerous acts from around the world who've performed in Charleston on behalf of the association.

Famed American composer Marvin Hamlisch was the 75th season's opening performer. Over the years, CCMA has welcomed other world-class performance artists, such as Lily Pons, Jerome Hines, Luciano Pavaroti, the London Symphony and the Wynton Marsalis Jazz Quartet, to name but a few.

Columbia Gulf Transmission :: Brochure

Bryan Boyd Creative Group has a diverse clientele, from industry and medical to banking and non-profit. This brochure was designed for Columbia Gulf Transmission of Houston, TX. The entire project was managed via internet and phone communication.

The maps are clearly the highlight of this brochure, and we worked closely with Columbia Gulf's engineers to produce accurate, yet visually engaging, maps of their pipeline network.

Thomas Health System :: Women's Services Radio

This post, in a roundabout way, features two types of services that BBCG has provided to Thomas Health System since becoming their agency of record. The first, seen above, is the institution's logo. We took elements from each individual hospital's logo and incorporated it into a single, overarching identity.

The second, and the original purpose of this post, are the two radio spots we recorded for the Women's Services campaign. As we did with the St. Francis Center for Pain Relief spots, we once again drafted a single script to be read by two distinct voices. Click on the links below to listen:

Thomas Health System :: Women's Services Newsprint Ad

This is one in a series of newsprint ads for the Women's Services campaign for Thomas Health System. It is running simultaneously with targeted radio spots and billboards throughout the Charleston metro area.

Appalachian Education Initiative :: Art & Soul: West Virginians in the Arts Book

Back in 2004, the Appalachian Education Initiative – a non-profit organization committed to furthering arts education in West Virginia public schools and communities – worked with BBCG to create Art & Soul: West Virginians in the Arts. The purpose of the book is to celebrate the successes of performing, literary and visual artists who attended a West Virginia public school for some portion of their K-12 education.

BBCG acted as designer and artist liaison, contacting the 50 featured artists and/or their appropriate representatives for photos and biographical information. After a year of multiple phone calls, e-mails and overnight packages, Art & Soul: West Virginians in the Arts was debuted at the West Virginia State Capitol with First Lady Gayle Manchin hosting the event.

The image presented here is the book's cover, which features actresses Jennifer Garner and Ann Magnuson, actors Paul Dooley and Don Knotts, writers Jayne Anne Phillips and Homer Hickam and musicians Brad Paisley, Kathy Mattea and Little Jimmy Dickens, to name but a few.

Spilman Thomas & Battle PLLC :: Coverage Print Ad

Spilman Thomas & Battle PLLC, formed in 1864, is one of the region's largest law firms. With 100+ attorneys practicing in over 30 disciplines in four states, Spilman is well-equipped to serve its diverse client base. WV Children's Health Insurance Program :: Logo

We created this logo for the West Virginia Children's Health Insurance Program (WV CHIP) several years back, and it has been very effective for them. So much so that they've built their entire Web site around the colorful design.

Thomas Health System :: Knee Deep Print Ad

This is one of the print ads for the Thomas Health System "Knee Deep" campaign. It is the print piece that complements this billboard design.

Breakthrough Health Care Research Services :: Premier Ad

McMillion Research launched a new health care-related research group, Breakthrough, for which BBCG designed a logo. Upon quick completion of that project, BBCG created this dramatic ad, which is running in the current edition of Quirk's Marketing Research Review.

Volunteer West Virginia :: Faces of Leadership Conference Brochure

Volunteer West Virginia is the State's Commission for National and Community Service. BBCG recently produced this brochure to promote the Commission's annual Faces of Leadership conference. The image above is the brochure cover.

Charleston Civic Center :: Logo

The Charleston Civic Center is not only the area's venue of choice for concerts, sporting events, conferences and meetings, but it's also one of BBCG's oldest clients.

In the early 2000s, we worked with the civic center on creating a new logo that would visually represent the wide variety of services and options they offer. The multiple rings, which form a single circle that references the center itself, each represent a distinct arm of its various offerings: the Coliseum, Grand Hall, Little Theater, Municipal Auditorium, Meeting Rooms and on-site catering by Distinctive Gourmet.

We promote the Charleston Civic Center in a variety of national and local publications, including Pollstar, Billboard and Facilities and Destinations magazines.

St. Francis Hospital :: Center for Pain Relief Radio Campaign

We recently recorded two radio spots for St. Francis Hospital's Center for Pain Relief. The spots are running in conjunction with a larger campaign that includes both print ads and billboards (samples of which we will soon post).

The spots below utilize the same script, which closely mimics the print ads. In order to keep the message sounding fresh, we used two different voices, one male and one female. This addresses any concern of repetition while maintaining a singular message, especially for a brief campaign such as this.

The spots will begin airing in the Beckley and Parkersburg, West Virginia markets on July 13 and will conclude at the end of August.

Black Bear BBQ Company :: Logo Illustration

MindField Internet Panels :: IQD Ad

MindField Online is a leader in online technology and data collection. MindField also boasts the most in-depth, targeted internet panels available, probing for the most current data and trends in an array of areas, including Health and Ailments, Electronics and Entertainment, Grocery and HBA Brands, and much more.

The folks at MindField recently created what is referred to as a "realtime electronic countermeasure" in order to put a freeze (thus the penguin) on repetitive panel responses. BBCG worked closely with the MindField team to not only create a logo for their IQD (Insuring Quality Data) mechanism, but to also promote it via a national, industry-specific publication ad. The result is both engaging and effective.

Thomas Health System :: Knee Deep Billboard

Thomas Health System charged BBCG with creating a dramatic and unique multi-media marketing campaign promoting its position as an orthopedic leader in West Virginia. The image above was the billboard design and represents just one piece of the campaign. We'll post the complementary print-ad soon.

Putnam County Bank :: 2008 Annual Report

Putnam County Bank has a long, storied history in West Virginia, having remained locally owned and operated for more than a century. They haven't been a client of ours for quite that long, but BBCG's relationship with the bank spans at least two decades and nearly as many annual reports. This is the bank's 2008 report, "A Family Tradition."

Clark Truck Parts/Clark International :: Logos

Clark Truck Parts was established in 1960 and is a family-owned and operated West Virginia company. Clark specializes in refurbishing the highly dependable, standard issue U.S. Military 6x6 all-wheel drive truck for redeployment to a new adventure. Early on, the overhauled trucks and their parts were supplied primarily to the region's mining industry. But today finds the 6x6s, as well as other vehicles, parts, etc., shipping out of Clark's warehouses by the hundreds to an international clientele.

The logo design we created certainly combines the rugged, militaristic feel of their industry, while at the same time focusing on the global aspect of their outreach. We'll post samples of the logo in action (on letterhead, envelopes, business cards) in the near future.

Mason-Dixon Energy :: Logo

Mason Dixon Energy, Inc. (MDE) provides contract land services to oil and gas exploration and production companies throughout North America. Founded in 1984, MDE is headquartered in Bridgeport, West Virginia, with satellite offices in Prestonsburg, Kentucky, and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

BBCG worked with MDE to create this new logo, which incorporates an 'M' and a 'D' into a spherical, globe shape. Coupled with a utilization of vibrant earth tones, the shape and color of the logo highlights MDE's relationship to the earth sciences.
